The statement from the Agriculture minister of India could have been accepted if he is talking of any spike in prices of fancy and luxury items like car, bungalow, etc. But when we are talking about the food prices, people may not buy and accumulate just because of they have the purchasing power, nor they are going to consumer more than they used to, just because they have got more purchasing power. The food is a basic necessity, when the common man is finding it extremely difficult to buy what is required for him, how can he be thought to be buying more for fancy?
I think it is the time for our Central ministry to do his home work properly and talk sensibly. He should work more towards bringing the supply-demand to a more reasonable level by controlling the population, increasing the agricultural production, having a robust supply-chain, reducing the middle men, having more accurate whether forecasting mechanism, helping the farmers for better cultivation etc.
